Basic Bookbinding (to do even in bed)

At the HOPE Congress 2023 in Milan Jan gave a workshop to two groups, entitled “Basic Bookbinding, to do even in bed”. The participants learned how to make books with children from six years old up to 80 years old. The books are made of old juice packs and some blank sheets of paper. This book has two secret storage compartments and the closure of the juice pack is used as the closure for the book. You don’t need special tools to make these books. In fact you only need a few simple tools like a pair of scissors, a needle, a nail, a ruler, a pencil and four clothespins (probably available in every household).

The books look like these.

“Some participants in the workshops asked me at the time if I had information about this so that they could do it at home. I then promised that I would share that information. I would publish it on the HOPE website at the page about the HOPE workshop “Art”. That has been done recently. The first document is about cleaning juice cartons. The second document is a manual in which you can see step by step how the booklet is made.

This is the link to those two documents:  www.hospitalteachers.eu/info/workshops/view-a-workshop?fullview=3310

A very special part of the booklet is a secret storage compartment for cheat sheets. This is a great cheat sheet from a not-too-bright student.

Even people who did not participate in the workshop “Basic Bookbinding, to do even in bed” in Milan can still make such a nice booklet from a juice carton independently with this manual. A good book is the best of friends, especially a nice book made by your own hands. So hands on and good luck.
