Zu der Person | ||||
Trained as a teacher for secondary schools (German and English) I worked for about 12 years in schools in the southwest of Germany. During six years of sabbaticals in the U.S. and Italy, I was involved in several non-teaching activities which included corporate management in human resources and development, accounting, and computer projects in the U.S. On returning to Germany, I started teaching at a hospital school with several specialized locations (orthopedic rehabilitation, psychiatry and psychosomatics, general children's hospital). For the past 8 years I have been increasingly involved in HOPE, finally taking on the task of treasurer in the Board and collaborating in the planning and organization of the present congress. | ||||

'Discover the hospital' is a programme which the hospital school Ludwigsburg has managed for many years. About 8 times a year a group of students from a school in our area is invited to spend a day at our hospital and find out about processes and activities 'behind the scenes'. In doing so students learn about the wide variety of jobs in a hospital ( e.g. laboratory workers, telephone technicians, housekeepers, IT specialists, specialized nurses, etc.). When the students arrive in the morning they are divided in groups of 4. Each group is given an individual itinerary, time plan, and other documents. Then they find their way e.g. to the emergency room, the newborn ward, the accounting department, the repair workshops, the operating theaters, etc. At each stop they make contact with a liaison person. At the end of the day all the students come together to exchange and present their experiences and impressions. The day at the hospital is prepared and followed up in school lessons. |
